I love to hunt an old grown up field with 8 to 10 foot high pine trees every so often.

I'm just insidea standof oaks with a hay field in front of me, cedar thicket behind me, and a creek crossing to my right angling in front of me, between me and the field. It doesn't get much better than that for me.....

I love the mountains.

All else is beautiful as well, but I did not grow up around the mountains. You could not pay me enough to move away from where I live now.

I hunt the praire, the steppes, foothills, river bottoms, copses, grovesand grainfields, but the mountains are the best. I will hunt them until I can no longer physically make my way through thier majestic reaches.

Hunting is the circle of life.

I like to hunt the softwood saddles between 2 peaks on the mountain tops. Always lots of buck sign there.

I have a little island in the middle of a swampy area between 2 ridges (about 40 ft. ridges). It's been fairly dry for the last couple of years so no real swamp water but about 2 ft. grass. There is about 150 yards from the willows at the bottem of both ridges to the island, plus about 500 yards looking down both ridges in front.During both ML and rifle season the wind almost 100% of the time directly in my face so there is no real wind issue to worry about (I enter from the back of theisland with wind in my face so also leaving no scent trail). The bucks usually cross about 100 yards in front of me so as long as you are still with the bush behind you they never see you. Unreal kill zone, great vision, and lots of deer.

I had a honey hole spot ona previous property that was just dynamite for bucks. I was off the back of a heavily used cornfield on a funnel between it anda known buck bedding area. I have rattled in probably a dozen or more nice bucks, two over 150",over the years bowhunting and only connected on one my last year that i was able to hunt there. It never seemed to amaze me how many deer would come piling out of the thicket in front of that tree and felt very secure in that area, WAS an amazing spot!

Hardwood ridges with lots of beechnuts, the deer love the beechnuts! That helps build body mas for the winter ahead and deer will use them even in the middle of day.

I like hunting in the open woods, near some trails that come out of either a swamp or section of pines, and leads out to a field.

I am used to hunting field edges, fences rows, and some river bottoms. I am from Indiana and in the area I am from those are some of the hot spots...I have found most of my success to come from over grown fence rows that seperate two difference fields...Works as a great funnel and source of cover when getting from one woods to another. Have a lot of success on the edge of fields just inside the woods...Areas like this have proven to be great staging areas for late in the evening before the deer head to the fields to feed...But like I said thats just where I am from...Different people have luck in different places.
