He shot a buck...or did he?

G-Dawg's uncle up in Kansas shot this muley a few weeks ago. Thinking it was a buck, sent it to the processors, and the guy called him and told him it didn't have any cods. He shot a racked doe, mule deer. It's a pretty rare deal. Pretty nice deer too. Congrats to Garen's uncle!

You would have thought that he would have noticed this when he field dressed it.<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

Could he have used his doe tag on that if he would have noticed

I have seen whitetails does like that at the Buck Horn Hall of fame in San Antonio Texas. It pretty cool. Its funny that you posted this because yesterday a friend and I were discussing how to tag a deer like that. In Texas, it states that it is a buck if it has a hard bony antler protruding the skin. So does that mean you tag a antlered doe as a buck? Would you get in trouble for taging one as a doe ?

I guess most folks would tag it as a buck because when you
are done field dressing it, it would just be a &quot;velvet&quot; buck.

the tags most states issue are for legally antlered or antlerless has nothing to do with the sex of the deer, except that bucks are almost always the antlered ones

Yep HFF, that's how it is here in Arkansas. Antlered and antlerless deer tags. Sex has nothing to do with it. I'm guessing he tagged it as an antlered deer or buck.

HFF has got it covered for Oregon . Once its field dressed looks like it could be rather hard to tell at a glance .Starting to wonder about the processor ,didn't the hunter dress the deer first .
