You didn't say if your using a bow, rifle, muzzle loading or shotgun. All the above information is good but the main advise I'd offer is whatever your hunting with is practice, practice, and practice some more. And have complete confidence in your weapon of choice. Don't wait until opening morning to drag your weapon out. Know where it shoots, what loads your shooting best,and did I say practice? Gettin up in the stand, playing the wind, and all the scouting won't do much good unless you can make the ethical shot and put your game down in my opinion. And while your doing all the practicing, make sure you hunt with the same ammo you sight in with. I don't bow hunt but I'm sure a bowhuntercan offer some advise if the same applies to bows.I was green once as with all of us. The best thing I can tell you is not to get discouraged if you don't harvest a deer for the first year or so. It happened to me for the first couple of years and it made me a better hunter.

I'm fairly new to this as well. This upcoming season will be my third. My best advice; go hunting with an old guy who knows the game in your area and pay attention, also, if you watch those hunting shows on TV, realize they are only extended commercials for products and outfitters. Little of what you see on those shows exists in reality.

Hunt safe, Hunt ethical, read as much information as you can and learn from your misstakes. Just remember there are as many ways to hunt deer in the country as there are deer so not everything works for everyone.

For me I spend alot of time scouting after the season.I call it shed antler hunting.I was looking in a new spot yesterday on some public land.I found two sets of sheds laying in one spot,That gave me a starting point.Looking around further I found a major travel corridor that I never knew existed and now I know two decent bucks survived.I'm hoping no one else knows that.Maybe I shouldent have told yall that.Its our secret right.There are many more tidbits of knowledge I could pass on but this is a starting point for you.Good luck.

Took me years to realize probably the most important aspect of hunting. If you aren't seeing deer, move; and don't stop moving until you are seeing deer! Also, save yourself a TON of grief, spend a little money on a good stand set-up so you can move easily!

Straight-up, the worst mistakes we make as hunters is over-hunting areas. Stay on the move and you will see ten times more animals! Just wish it didn't take me 10+ years to realize this!

they are very scitish animals so be extra cautious about your movement and sound. they also have anincredible sence of smell.

Take up squirrel hunting. The woods-time will pay huge dividends in deer season. There is no better teacher than just being in the woods. Learn to sit still.
