ground blinds
 

i hunted this weekend using a ground blind. i think it was called the outhouse. i had a chair and it was very comfortable. didnt see any deer. do you think these things are good or not? they seem to me like they stand out to much. seems like deer would surely notice these and be awful wary of the area. does anyone use them, and do you like them?

I have thought of getting a groundblind also. I would think eventually the deer would get used to it. I was going to put some branches over mine to make it blend in better.

i have used the outhouse and i have seen deer out of it none that i would wanna shoot but they get used to it fairly quick i own the same one. as a matter of fact i am using it this weekend.... my suggestion in do your best to blend it in but then again i have used the "penthouse out in the wide open on the bank of a pond and seen many deer with in 30 yards...

I use onee, I stack a ton of banches around and on it, it blends it in really well. The deer definitely get used to it, no different than a new bale of hay, or pc of farm equipment left laying around, they'll come over and investigate it at night, then forget about it. In the woods, it's just another clump of branches knocked down in a storm.
I don't use it the same day, unless I'm gun hunting and set up for longer shots, say 50yrds and over. Even then, I brush it in real good with natural vegetation. I think you stand out a lot less when it's covered with branches than sitting in a treestand.

I bought an Ameristep Doghouse blind this past summer and used it extensively during our state's goose, archery and rifle for deer seasons with relatively good success. I would highly recommend it. It is lightweight, easy to carry and use, quiet and relatively inexpensive compared to some other companies....

I have used a ground blind for the past 15 years in the same area and deer get used to them...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Im am 15 years old. I have hunted on the ground for four years. We use bales of hay. I make a big square than stack the bales 3 high and the deer has never seen me or smelt me. I have had deer up to 2 feet away they dont smell you because of the scent that the bles put off. Tell me what u think of my idea.

mugsy deer will get used to anything, one place I hunt a major deer trail passes within feet of an old dishwasher some dirtbag dumped in the woods. The longer it is there the better, this is one reason I love permanent stands.

I agree Tazman. People say deer will avoid permanent stands, but I don't agree. To me the only reason a deer will avoid an area is because it either saw, heard, or smelled a predator nearby.

I killed a 9pt from a ground blind this year like the ones www.deerblindplans.com He walked 20 yards from the blind didn't even look towards the blind. He was watching the does at the feeder. [
