Which gun for deer?
#11
RE: Which gun for deer?
The rifles were made in the U.S.A. during WWII because of the Lend-Lease Act, in which American companies, including the Savage Arms Co., made the rifles for the Brits. We also made their tanks, planes, and even some of their ships, in return for bases overseas.
If you look at a Lee-Enfield at a gun show, it'll say something like "United States Government Property" or, "Made in the U.S.A.", or some sort of obvious mark that says it's American.
The early models of the Lee-Enfields that weremade in WWI wereBritish, I think, but the Model No.4 (Which is the one listed)was made in America, pretty much all of them you see in the Western Hemisphereare made in the U.S.A.

RE: Which gun for deer?
I'm not a big fan of Enfields, and good hunting ammo can be hard to come by in the stores, but it is the superior rifle for deer, IMHO. I like fast, flat-shooting spitzer-type bullets in my rifles, and I like to be able to stretch shots out when necessary. The .30-30 is plenty of rifle for the average deer hunter, but it's not the gun for some of the open, rolling terrain I hunt. The .30Carbine is not accurate or powerful enough for most deer hunting situations, IMHO.
