RE: deer hunting skill or right place right time

Its a combination of skill and being at the right place at the right time. The more skills you develop, the more likely you are to be at the right place at the right time.

It is skill 95% and 5% luck. If you have done your homework in scouting and preseason there is a good chance you will know where the deer are and their patterns to a certain degree. If you practice at the range you increase your skill with your weapon be it a rifle, bow, shotgun or muzzleloader knowing your range and making the shot is increased as well.

Being able to relax when a large deer you walks in front of you is luck and skill depending on how experienced you are. I don't care who you are but when the big one comes in it is still a rush. Maybe not as much as the first time but it brings your adreniline up at least a notch or two no matter how calm you say you are.

Its alittle bit of both, you need to be able to read the signs and know what the deer are doing. You also have to hope that the deer are getting all the right food and minerals to make those big horns and be healthy.

It is more skill than luck, the skill is finding the right place and figuring out the approximite right time, the luck is being there at the right time

Hmmm....let's see. I am not sure if it is skill or luck....cause I aint had much of either this year! But I will continue to work on my skills to see if that helps...:)

The harder you work, the luckier you'll get<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Skill is finding where the deer are using the trails, feeding and bedding areas and where the deer have been and likely to be. Luck is if they come by or are there when you are. More deer are take each year by hunters going and coming to thier stands or blinds than any other method. I have killed 30 (at least) that have just been standing there waiting on me when I rounded a corner or looked up from a set of tracks. These I didn't expect to be there, they just were. Lucky for me.
