I wonder why so many die by the waters edge

Animals that have shot (or even humans) are dehydrated.Theygo to the water to drink and most die there
...especially gut-shot deer. They, like us, absorb almost all of their moisture through their large intestine, and if it's blown apart, or the digestive tract is sufficiently dammaged ahead of the colon, and the deer lives long enough, it'll get plently thirsty.

My other thought was that they could have fallen through the ice, but I was in a different boat trying for big fish of the night, so I didn't see how deep he was or how he was laying.

Just take up bowfishing and shed hunt as you go.;)
You can do it with any bow once you add a few accessories and special arrows.

Well, I'm the guy who found the deer. The one I found last year was a nice 10 pt. Again, it was on the bank but right at the water's edge. And as every one has stated they do run for water when hit in the right place. With the generator lights on the rack really stand out in the dark. The one in the picture was still in tack with the whole skelton in place. The one we could not get out of the water still had the hide and was almost whole. But boy did it stink. As Chris said we could not get it up, and really did not try too hard with the smell. The 10 pt that I found last year I gave to a guy and had some ball point pen's made out of it. Pretty unique. I plan on donating one to the club to auction off.
Boy did we see a huge beaver..or did chris say that..??

Howdy Dan (Bloodcreek).
It was nice to meet you at the show where wewere manningthe Illinois Bowfishers booth/Huntingnet booth/Kid's archery range. It was a busy weekend, but it was nice to meet a few guys from the forums.
See you around the deer woods.

Up by me, they are so polluted that you can't eat them per Dept of Health warnings. Mine get given away or recycled into fertilizer. My veggie plants think they are delicious. I can always give away buffalo since there is always somebody willing to take them, and I'll keep my own gar.
