One time I was walking to my stand and....
I got to the base of my stand where it is very brushy, I was halfway up the tree and there was a big black bear sitting on a log about 18 steps away. I was bowhunting for deer but still had a valid bear tag in my pocket, how cool is this. I procceded up the tree slowly she was faced away from me, and I say she because the sow had three cubs with her which made her illegal and unethical to shoot. I did manage to get my bow in my hand before she got nervous. The 3 cubs came scampering from all directions, I was almost inbetween them YIKES!!

RE: One time I was walking to my stand and....
Once when I was climbing a tree in my climbing stand in early bow season, I kept feeling something crawling on my hand. I figured it was just a lady bug or tick or something so I didn't think anything of it. When I got settled in I turned on my flashlight to see what it was on my hand...and it was the biggest, fattest black widow spider I ever saw!!! I freaked out and thumped it with my other hand and I heard it hit the ground!
I hate spiders. And there was this other time years ago I was run up a tree by hogs while I was squirrel hunting, and all I had was a 22. I got one of them, and ran out of bullets, so I thew branches at them to get them to stop knocking the tree I was in, I finally thew my gun at one and they left. I ran back home and got my dad's 12ga and the first three shells I could find. Buckshot, turkey load, and rabbit shot. I thought I loaded them in that order, but somehow the turkey load got chambered first. As I walked back to the one hog I downed with my 22, (it was a clean kill right between the eyes) I heard something behind me on the trail, It was the biggest boar hog in the group, he saw me at the same time and he charged me again. One shot with a 2 3/4" number 4 shot ended it for him in his tracks. The rest of the hogs were all around me but ran off at the sound of the shot. Both hogs had some white patches on thier liver and chest cavity so I think they were sick with something. The processer told us not to eat them and we informed the game warden, and he took them. Great squirrel hunt that turned out to be. Both hogs were around 100 pounds and died with one shot each. "Hey ya'll, watch this" |

RE: One time I was walking to my stand and....
One time as I approached my stand in complete darkness, I heard a growl close by me that scared the crap out of me. I stopped, then approached my stand again, and the growl started again. I was hoping it was just a dog. I stood about 10 yards from my stand for 15 minutes waiting for daylight. Sure enough, it was a dog staying underneath my stand. Poor little fellow was more scared than me!

I found myself nose to nose with a coon that was on the seat of my ladder stand two years ago. I let him hunt that stand that day.

RE: One time I was walking to my stand and....
One time I hunted someone else's tower blind and heard a commotion as I was climbing the ladder. When I got in the blind, one of the windows was cracked open and there was an owl nest with some eggs inside the blind. I closed the window and sure enough the momma owl came back within a few minutes and tried to come in through the now-closed window. She came back several times and flew around the blind.
When I left the blind I left the window as I had found it. I came back the next day and when I drove up I could see that momma owl was back in the blind with her eggs. By the way, she was a barn owl with the white breast and face feathers, known for nesting in barns and outbuildings. |

RE: One time I was walking to my stand and....
Two years ago, on my last lease, the rancher warned us not to go in one field becouse he kept his range bull there and he was not exactly a frendly cuss.
Well I had setup on the other side of the ranch and things were great. Near the end of the season I had went out at 5am walking out without a care. I was almost to the blind when I hear the sound of a train coming behind me. It took one look to tell me it wasnt a train (full moon thank goodness). Well the blind suddenly became 5 miles away and the closest thing was the fence. I chose the fence and cleared it with NO problem. The rancher forgot to tell us he moved "Max" to that field. Did I get to my blind? No! Max seemed to like the trees that it was in so I went else where. Rick Lifes not about knowing the answers, its about asking the questions. |

That's a greepy one Tiggeer.<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>Last year in the very early morning with very little light I made my way into the woods twords my stand. While slowly walking through the woods I heard a few noises, nothing to out of the normal. While coming toward my last few reflectors to that help me find my way I noticed one of then when blank that reflected again. Keep in mind these are placed chest high (my chest) and I am 6ft2. Not to alarmed at first, but it made me open my eyes a little wider! Not more than another 75 yards, all I here is some branches racking and brushes moving! This is now coming twards me and Man O Man talk about spooked. That movement stopped as I tried to see what it was and it then started to quickly move in the opposite direction, once again interupting the shine of the relctors? needless to say I made it very fast to my stand and got up there fast. When day light come around and when I came down there I found branches broke, that were pretty high? Who knows. Maybe it was Bigfoot? What ever it was, scared the breath out of me. KEEP HUNTING THE GREAT OUTDOORS & GOD ALIVE, PASS IT ON! |

RE: One time I was walking to my stand and....
Walking to my stand through a pasture, my dad and I were just taking our time when something knocked my dad flat on his face. It was pitch black w/no moon and we were scared sh*t. All of a sudden, I feel pressure on my hip and I grab a set of horns while my dad throws the light on me. It was a billy goat that the guy had bought the previous weekend! This guy was pretty small but he was full of energy. Still a good laugh when I bring it up to my dad.

RE: One time I was walking to my stand and....
I went out to the woods last month bowhunting and found one of my trees that I always go up in. I undid my climber and hooked it to the tree only to here the most blood curdling scream I have ever heard I shined my light up in the tree and didn't see or hear nothing else. So I continued to get on my climber and started up the tree another scream was let out, I shined my light up the tree and it was a bobcat. I flew down out of tree(that might have been the fastest I have ever moved) and left that patch of woods in a hurry. That was the first time I have ever heard one scream like that and I just about sh&t my drawers. Bobcats don't get as big as mountain lions or anything but it would surely tear the hell out of ya! (that is when I started carrying a gun with me bowhunting).

RE: One time I was walking to my stand and....
I once was sitting in a blind when I heard some rustling noises to my left.
I s-l-o-w-l-y, carefully opened the blind, hoping to see the buck I had been waiting for. To my dismay, instead, my 10x25s revealed a lady hiker doing what bears proverbially do in the woods. I hid back in my blind, praying that she would not realize I was there, no more than 20 yards away. Upon my return home, my wife asked me if I had seen any whitetail. I could only blush and chuckle. |
RE: One time I was walking to my stand and....
The last buck that I have shot is when I was sitting in my ol' man ladder stand and a squirrel was climbing up my metal ladder stand barking at me. He got about 3' from my feet and I was about to hit him with my gun when the buck walked across. I shot the buck and the squirrel still came further up my stand until I swatted him away with my gun.
I had another incident when I was rabbit hunting. I was tracking a running rabbit with my shotgun and just about to take the shot when a bobcat ran across and took the rabbit down before I could shoot. I figured if he out hunt me he deserves the rabbit more than me. |
RE: One time I was walking to my stand and....
This one time, at band camp, I went bow hunting, and when I was walking to my stand, a looked behind me, and the biggest leopard in the world was chasing me, and I ran for 15 miles, and when I got to my stand, there was a huge dragons sitting in the branch above me, and I jumped into the lake I was sitting next to, and I was swimming, and the loc ness monster bit my foot, and I swam away to shore, and I felt something reach down and grab me, and it was bigfoot, and he was gonna eat me, and I kicked him in the knee, and I ran to my truck, and drove 900 miles an hour to my house, and I drove for 2 years, and when I got to my house, I WOKE UP. :). Just kidding, good stories guys. I really hope nobody believe me. :^)
