I would like to do a test with your help
I read recently due to most hunter not having time to scout or very minimal scouting that they use a topo and satalite maps to do this for them and it works well. I have a challange for you all. It might help if the mods put this up top. I pretty much have 7-8 straight days this fall to hunt gun season in a 9 day season here in Wisconsin. So what I need is 14-16 hunters here from this post to look at a satalite map that I post and pick a stand for me to use this fall. Anywhere within this area I will have outlined. Only 1 stand picked per hunter. I will use one in the morning and then a different stand in the afternoon. I will point out some swamp areas on this map.
I will point out where the land goes from kind of flat to the hills. This land is county land and timber company land so yes it is public land. I will point out where some of the private land is also. If you need zoomed in spots please let me via pm and will send them to you. I just want to try something different this year. If this is to many hunters for my test then I will pick 8 and have them pick a morning stand and a evening stand. After the hunts and the 9 day season is over I will post here my results. How the day went, conditions, pictures from each stand et.... Let me know your thoughts? Tony (peakrut) P.S.-im not trying to be lazy. This area will be my 23rd year hunting gun season. |

Give me a day or two. If not you can pick opening weekend for me.
Something tells me hunters are more lazy then I thought. This might be to much work. ;) ORIGINAL: jmbuckhunter Looks like your not gonna get too many new spots to try. I can't believe noone else wants to give this a shot. Kinda wanted to see what kind of guide I would be. |
RE: I would like to do a test with your help
I went to the map in the link and couldn't really tell much. Your attachment is too small to really see much of anything? If you want people to try and pick out some spots you are going to have to do a little better job of letting them know what we are looking at. You can use www.mapquest.com or www.googlemaps.com with their aerial view features and that works pretty good. Do a print screen and then paste it into microsoft paint and you can draw on it or whatever you want.
Here is an example I did when I was asking questions about my tiny little property: You can do the same thing with a topographical map from www.topozone.com : ![]() If you need help drop me a PM or email and I'll try to help. Nathan |
RE: I would like to do a test with your help
I would like to see how many step up before I put all this into it.
Thanks though and yes I will use paintbrush. |
RE: I would like to do a test with your help
I would think stand placement would be very dependent on current weather conditions. It would help to know the primary wind direction and also you really wouldn't be able to pick out the stand to hunt that day without knowing the wind direction would you? If the wind is blowing from the north you wouldn't want to setup a stand over a open clearing to your south and thick woods to the north. I'm curious about this, but I don't know if you are hunting 100 acres or 10,000 acres. I couldn't tell anything from the attachment you provided or the link.
