Default Favorite types of trees for treestands?

I head for the Oak grovesin the early seasons (Sept-Nov)because the deer are fattening up on acorns, I also like to find a nice White Oak near a creek crossing, and becauseOaks are fairly easy to get up high in with climbers. I alsooccasionally findsome pines to get in as deer seem to like staying there because it blocks alot of wind, snow, and its quiet later in the season, usually has to be a lock on. What trees do you guys look for climbers and to hang lock on stands in? Im going to put some new stands upas the canopy is down and I can trim out shooting lanes easier. I'm going to cruise around shed hunting and looking for new stand locations.

I do not like shaggy bark trees. I prefer gum trees, red oak, willow oak, post oak, cotton wood, then white oakor pine.

Prefer pine trees, easier to hide in, more cover

I also really like pine trees because it helps knock down scent, its quiet, breaks up allot of the wind, and conceals you pretty good. The worst part is you get sap all over yourself if you have trim anything. By the time I get outta my stand my gloves are stuck to my head, what a mess.

Beach trees are really easy to put stands in. They have lots of branches, low and high, so most of them require very little lumber, and they hold their leaves for a while after they turn brown, so they provide good cover as well. But you’ll have to do some pretty heavy pruning to get some shooting lanes. I made two new stands in them this year and used the clippings to assist in a funnel that cut off one of the evening paths. It ended up working really well.
Good luck and be safe,
KP

any tree thats close to a good funnel works for me.. if I can hang a stand atleast 12-15ft then im good to go

a bad tree in a good spot is far better than a good tree ina bad spot

Hey Diesel - what I have done in the past with Pine tree stands is to take a burlap bag and baling twine and tie the burlap to the tree trunk to keep the sap off the back of my camo . I also use surgical gloves when climbing to keep my hands from getting sticky . You can really hide in a Pine tree !
