Quick Kills?

I was watching a video on hunting footage. This fella is using a 300 Win Mag.

Check it out ->> http://www.huntingfootage.com/showphoto.php?photo=3246&cat=507&si=big%20 8%20down&perpage=16

I have never seen a deer drop quite like this and quick. Could anyone venture a bullet that was used. Dropped do fast, it confused the nearby doe.

I am trying to figure out which bullet to use on the larger mulies. I am thinking Noslers, or the basic Core Lokt or Win Power Points.

Should I go down in weight to say 150-165, and use an Accubond, as the others (BT's and Core Loks) will probably disintegrate at this high speed for this weight, 150 (34-3500 fps) 165 (3300 ps)

Or Move up to 180 gr BT's (3-3,100 ps)so they hold together more. Looking for a kill like this guy, as I know I can make the same shot placement he did.

Better to use velocity and disintegration, or velocity and tougher to go through, or big and heavy to hammer down?

i don't believe any shot or every shot is a garauntee "drop'm in their tracks" shot. i've seen deer shot in the head run 100 yards before falling. i've also seen heart/lung shot deer run. the closest to a "drop'm in their tracks" shot is a spine shot and even these don't mean a quick kill.

the most important thing is to make the most humane shot possible, this way the animal does not have to go through any unnecessary suffering.

That deer was most likely shot in the neck,destroying the spinal cord. As far as the bullet ... who could really know? Any big game, or small game round for that matter, would drop that buck like that if placed in the same spot IMO.

Go 180 gr ....

I've had bang-flops on a lot of deer. I agree that bullet placement is more important than the design of the bullet. I tend to aim about 1/3 to midway down the chest. Mainly because the lower body is usually covered by brush or grass. I usually end up going through the shoulder blade. All I know is that they usually drop right there. I once shot 2 does with 2shots out of a group of 5. The lead doe dropped. The rest just stood around, confused. After the second doe dropped, They still were confused. But, I was out of tags.

It's shot placement, not bullet weight, type or catridge loading.

I think it's as much about where the bullet hits as anything. I dropped my last buck just as fast with my .243.
