Deer Age??

How do you determine how old a deer is? I've heard that you can tell by their teeth? I've put some close-up pictures of my buck on here to show. Any help is great. -Thanks

Hopefully this comes out clear.

This is from the Deer Hunters Almanac. One of my favorite books on hunting whitetails.

PreacherTony, I'm not sure if its important to use the lower jaw as opposed to the upper jaw or not. I found a nice wide 6 point before archery seasonlast year and the teeth on both upper and lower jaw seemed to be the same. I aged him at 3 years old.

They sell an tool that helps age deer its a set ofjaw bones and teethbut they only have lower not upper. I found a deer about 3 weeks ago.I think diedabout 2 years ago. I found how to age it on google but I can't till if it's 41/2 or 51/2 by the pic onthe web site. I think ifI had one of the aging tools it would be easier to tell.

i am 99% sure you have to use the lower jaw. and its detemined by how worn down the teeth are.

I think they usually dertime the age by looking at the teeth from the top not side view. It goes by how worn the teeth are.

RE: Deer Age??

at the base of the antler or where the antler turns to bone youll see in deer the bones thinner than the antler base. On more mature bucks you will notice that compared to smaller bucks that the bone conected to the base of the antler will be bigger in diameter and closer to the size of the antler. something a taxidermist told me.
