wow that is crazy . That is as close as it gets to being seriously messed up and being able to walk away . Had he caught him strait into the chest and down on top of him they wouldn't be able to shoot any more and it wouldn't be pretty from that point on .That would certainly get your heart beating fast

I remember seeing that video floating around here in the past. Never really did get positive replies either. I'm still amazed that the lion didn't rip the guy's head off or nobody was hit during that wild shooting

That may work for Leopards, but lions are a subject all their own. Maybe, just maybe, a 10ga with a slug will work in close. Forget buckshot.

He should have followed up more quickly with his second shot while the cat regained his feet and looked around. The PH should have been on that cat the minute it got up after the client shot. Thats what he's paid to do; back up a clients so-so first shot.
Everyone was very, verylucky to have walked away from this one.

I like the way they all high 5 each other and hug and cheer. Yeah we wounded a lion and then it almost killed me. Hooray! The PH should have his license revoked and the hunter is lucky to be alive, not only from the lion, but from all of the shooting during the attack. MORONS!

I agree with you, Virginia Mike, the PH should have his license revoked ASAP. Any professional can see that the PH screwed up ROYALY!!!
I did not notice the gate because I was paying close attention to the lion's reaction and that of the PH. I'll go back to see the fence/gate.
If in fact it is a fenced in lion, that would explain the half-hearted charge.
A wild african lion wounded like that would have stayed all over the hunter he hit and chewed/clawed him until both were dead!! I have two friends who have hunted africa several times. I've heard the details to the point where I've got them memorized. That lion acted wierd when he charged. Not the usual lion frenzy explained to me.

Lions react in a very frenzied way when they're hit, even if mortally wounded. They either immediately vacate the area after being hit, orthey charge andclimb all over you like a pissed off swarm of bees.
The lion charged, jumped up almost missing his target, falls over, gets back up and runs away with quite a bit of left over energy. A wild lion would let that energy loose all over the hunter until he was killed.
Speak with some PH's or guys who've hunted Africa, they'll tell you. read from the likes of Ruark, Capstick, Caramojo Bell, etc and when you absorb the intensity in their writings regarding lion charges, you'll understand my point.

Yes 358, that would be alion with a REAL BAD ATTITUDE after that encounter. He didn't display this, other than the initial charge. Although that is some neat video, that lion isn't being hunted, he's being put down like they wouldat a zoo if one got loose. I's some kind of game farm they are on judging by the gates.[:@]If you stop the film you can see the gates.;)

I think that just as scary as the charging lion was all the cross-fire shooting. They were very fortunate that someone didn't end up with a lethal heavy caliber slug through them that would have killed them as fast as the lion could have.

Also, I played the video over again and I do see the gate you're refering to. Sad, that a majestic animal as the lion is ends up being some rich man's fancy under less than ideal african safari standards. And to boot, someone did mention the cross fire between clients and the so called PH. Just everyone's lucky day I guess...
Maybe they should've taken some of that luck to Vegas and played Blackjack instead!!!
