Those are both awesome bucks! To bag two bucks of that caliber on public land...gives hope to many out there. I can't believe they made it to 10 in Montana. I know when I lived there the winters could be down right "arctic"!

Looking at how nice those racks are on 10 year olds....could you imagine what they must have been say 4 years ago???

121553, I'd love to hunt Idaho. It would be nice to shoot two bucks. I don't think I can swing it next year though. Post some pictures of some of your bucks if you have a scanner, I love to see buck pictures, I know the Rexford area has some huge bucks.

yeoman, They age the deer buy looking at the lower jaw, they also pull a tooth. They could tell before they even looked at the teeth though.

There is some nice ones around here Reg, maybe thats why I'm spoiled in what I shoot. I have hunted just about every day since archery season begun and never let up and hunted the rut hard. Thoughout the entire season I had one shooter dureing the rut, a 150 class but thats another story,( also passed on a 130 class P/Y 5 pt and a couple of 4's) dureing archery. I usually average seeing 6 to 10 deer a day, but I was holding out for THE DEER, and in doing so I didn't bag my trophy, but my ma squaw got a 4pt last week to put meat in the freezer before the season ended. You gotta be proud of your season and I want to hear all about it, I know it had to be in the rut at that time and would like to know the circumstances leading up to it, if you know what I mean, if its a road kill then make up a good story, take care, Bobby <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

121553, He was rutting, my buddy and I went about 2 1/2 to 3 miles back on a closed logging road in the morning. We rattled and still hunted till about noon then slowly headed back to the truck, we saw a few does and one small buck in the morning. We split up about a half mile from the truck, I hiked a ridge and he took the road. I hiked back down to the road at 2:00 and noticed my buddy hadn't come out yet, his track wasn't on the road. I was only about 3 to 400 yards from the truck at this time when I heard a buck grunt above the road in a pine thicket, I couldn't see him at this point, a few seconds later a doe came running out of the thicket about 80 to 90 yards away with the buck a few steps behind her. I only had a few seconds to decide if I wanted to shoot him or not, I didn't think he was that big, I guessed 140 - 145, I figured I'd better shoot, 140 was my minimum, I didn't need the meat, the freezer was full of elk meat and two deer my wife and daughter had shot. I shot and he ran back into the thicket. Imagine my surprise when I walked up to him, ground growage instead of shrinkage, he was laying about 5 yards into the thicket. This was icing on the cake because I already had a great season, I shot a big 6 point bull elk with a late season tag in January then got a decent 5 point bull during archery season.
