If you look closely it looks like they are shooting over a bus full of school children and there is a hospital in the background. BLAH....BLAH....BLAH

If you don't hunt like me you are an idiot/slob hunter. Why? Because I said so.

Sounds like a lot of people drink too much "Hatorade".

I looked at the clip once and noticed in the pan out that their appeared to be either a trail or road below the hill from which they were shooting from. I was just curious if anybody else noticed it and what they tought it might be..that's all. [&:]

Its more like some of us have seen a lot of slob hunters. The kind that shoot from the hiway and shoot at anything that they can see. The kind that go afield with a rifle that they have no idea where it hits. The kind that shoot a small buck and leave it lay because they figure they can get a bigger one.. The kind that shoot a big buck and saw the horns off and leave the meat lay. The kind that shoot at game that is far beyond their capability because they don't give a damn if they just wound a few on the way to that long shot trophy.

If you don't know the type then your lucky.

Just because you can't shoot at the distances some people can doesn't mean you need to make up for it by complaining about their supposed "poor" hunting ethics.
I don't care if they cloned someone from a genetic combination of Sergeant York and Daniel Boone, glued a ballistics caluculatorto their buttand then raised them on a army shooting range. Nobody can consistently hit the vitals of a deer first shot from 890 yards under variable field conditions. And the guys who do this don't even make that claim. I have read articles about this type of hunting before and actually chatted with some groups of guys who do this at a few forums. Some of them admitted that even the best shooters out there doing this can miss a deer 5 times before they get the windage and elevation doped correctly. Well common sense tells you that if they can be off by enough to miss totally then they could also be off just enough to blow off a leg or hit some other non-lethal spot.

Bottom line is that these guys are taking extremely long shots at deer not because they have too but because they want to. They are simply using live deer as long range targets. No real hunter on Earth wants to have to take a 890 yard shot. I'd way rather have a trophy buck in my crosshairs at 70 yards than at 270 yards any day of the week. That's the mindset of a hunter. Backing off to 800, 900, or a 1000 yards on purpose just to see if you can still hit it is the mind set of a target shooter. And thats what these guys are IMHO. I bet they wound and lose a lot of deer just to score a few kills like those on the video clip to try and impress people. The sad thing is that I would be just as impressed to see them hit a milk jug full of water at 890 yards. The deer I think deserve more respect.

Why is that so many guys hack the vids?

I would bet these guys have a very high skill level, as well as knowledge about their weapons. This is something they have learned, not fluke.

GREAT VID!

Check out this one, this is how to shoot long range!!

Like I said, How many times did they screw the pooch to get that one success? My statements come from thousands of rounds on the steel silhouette range and I make them because I do know my rifles and their ability to defy all the extremes. The Ram is about the size of a deer and the shots are 500 Meters.

Whats even worse is the fact that had they just wounded that elk, What are the chance that they would ever find it by the time they work their way over there? This is plain and simple irresponsible conduct for anyone who calls them self a hunter.

One last point. Take the ballistics of your rifle and the range of that last video, 740 yard? what kind of energy is remaining at that range? The 300 RUM would have in the vicinity of 1200 lb ME. Now start asking hunters on here if the consider 1200 lbs of energy sufficient for elk. You know the ones I mean, the ones that say they would only use a 338 for elk and that the 270 won't cut the mustard.;)

All this hunter v. hunter stuff is ridiculous. Just because you guys don't want to, or can't, shoot at ranges like that doesn't mean you need to be calling those guys "slob hunters" or speculating about the hundreds of animals that they've wounded and lost (without one iota of evidence that they have). I bet PETA loves this. Here we are, hunters,on a hunting site, calling each other names, simply because we may disagree with someone else's LEGAL method of hunting.

James B... Congratulations on your thousands of rounds at silhouette. I'd really like to try it some time. But, I've shot thousands and thousands and thousands of rounds in IPSC matches. That doesn't mean I can compete with Rob Leatham...

Assumptions and what ifs and heresaydon't prove anything. The hunters on these clipsseem to prove themselves pretty well but if you are interested in finding out facts abouttheir equipment and methods maybe you should watch the videos before assuming. What if theydid wound an animal? It is justlike any other hunting show that doesn't show animals that are wounded or any other hunter for that matter. Do you think it doesn't happen on "ethically" correct shot distances (whatever that is) or close range hunting shows/videos(like bow & muzzleloader hunts)? Better yet has anyone herenever wounded any game?If you said no to either of the above questions my response would have to a resounding Yeah Right(unless of course you have not been hunting much/long). Of course it happens andunfortunately we all have or will wound game, it's part of hunting. But no,lets come on this thread andassume these guys are doing it all the time, they don't know their equipment, call them unethical slobs, andlets all pass judgement on them to show how much better we are. This thread is a joke. Like I saidearlier, it's not for me but if they want to do it and can do it who am Ito say they shouldn't or bash them.

If you like long range shooting, check out a video called "Beyond Belief" The guys that do a show called "Best of the West" on the Men's Channel made the video. There are a couple on there from over 1000 yards. Pretty amazing stuff. They also talk alot about how to become a better shot.
