Quick Question, Please read.
I hunt in a fairly thick area and therefore have taken the old 30-30 winchester i own and sighted it in at 50 yards. I'm hittin right around the bulleyes. More or less dead on at 50 yards.
I do not think i will be taken any shots farther than 50 but i was just curious where you all would think i'd be hitting at 100 yards? Would the bullet still be rising and hit a few inches high? would it start dropping and hit low?
Bottom line, if i'm dead on at 50, will i still be pretty darn accurate at 100?
I'm using remington 150 grain core lockts
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It depends on the kind of sites your using and how high they are above the bore. A bullet does not rise at all when it leaves your barrel, it drops from the split second it leaves until it hits something. It does rise above the line of site but that is due to the angle of your bore compared to the line of site. The best way to tell where your gun is hitting at a 100 yards is to shoot it at 100 yards, then you know for sure.

If you're hitting bang on at 50 yards I wouldn't worry about 100 yards. You should be ok. As far as struts comment is concerned he is not 100% correct. A bullet drops immediatedly if and only if the line of site is parallel with the ground. If a person is shooting at 100 yards, the bullet is dropping. But in order to hit accurately the bullet must have been high somwhere in its trajectory otherwise the bullet would have hit low. In order to compenste for this we sight in our guns to allow for the trajectory. The bullet rises then falls again hitting the mark. Most times if you are hiiting dead on at 25 yards you are also hitting on at 125 yards (this is an approximation/example and will depend on caliber/grain to a degree).
