I had one stellar day this year, as far as coolness (IMO). The harrier hawks were migrating thorough and were working the grasslands to the west of my stand really hard. I had been watching them just to entertain myself. All of the sudden one dives down into the grass and about 8 hen pheasants flush. I was thinking that the harrier couldn't have been much bigger than one of those pheasants.

That same day, I caught movement coming down the fence line my stand was in. It was a squirrel. The closer he got, the weirder he looked. He had a jet black belly that ran down the insides of his legs and came up under his chin. His back was the normal color for a fox squirrel. He kept coming down the fence line and actually jumped up onto the lowest rung of my ladder stand.

Where in Iowa are you hunting at? I saw a squirrel that looked just like that on public land east of Carlisle! It was the first time I had seen anything like it, so I'm just wondering how many there are and what the cause may be. The one I saw looked almost like spray paint...

I was hunting in Cedar County. Like most animals, coloration variations (melanism)canoccur; rare but not unhead of.

Interesting. It just struck me as odd and I thought it would have been ironic as hell had we both seen the same squirrel.

The one I saw was right by my car at lunch sitting on a fence post. He stood up and just kinda stared at me as if showing off his black belly fur.

Great Post..

During the last week of firearm in a Florida WMA I saw something neat. It was dark and I was driving about 35MPH down a dirt road to my hunting destination. Then, my headlights caught what looked like a big black hotwater heater with short legs running full throttle toward the side of my truck. I kicked in the secondaries and just missed the biggest hog I've ever seen in my life.

I had two cool sightings this year!
First one was scouting, I hadtwo 8pt andone 10 pt sparring at about 100 yds! At one point they were all in a triangle, looked like the 8pt's were trying to both take on the 10! It went on for a good half hour before the 10 had enough and ran em both to the other side of the field!!

Then, while bow hunting, I had 52, yes 52, I counted, turkeys walk under my stand!! I will pay the extra 14 bucks for the turkey bow hunting license next year!

In council bluffs all we have are the black squirrels. They are wierd.

About the amature porn video thing, I find that hard to believe. I need some proof, like a link to the site where this video can be found.

1: I watched a Bobcat stalk and kill a rabbit. Then it came and sat under my tripod and starting eating it. I could hear the bones cracking! It kept looking up at me tryiny to figure out what I was. After it finished and went on its way, there was not even a tuft of hair left.
2: Watched as a coyote was stalking a calf. The calf wheeled on the yote and ran it off. I was just getting ready to shoot the yote when the calf ran it off.
3. Saw a yote as it was passing a buck and a doe getting ready to do their thing. The doechased the yote off.
