We use a rock too but it's the size of a golf ball. The guy I used to rake my deer to would do 15-20 deer a night.

I will always use this method if I can. It is the fastest and easiest method I know of.

You can also use a hoist or even a "come along" to do it.

ya i seen it in deer and deer huntin i think it was, it was in one of their issues last year,, i thought about tryin it but have yet to,

Used the golf ball on 3 deer this year and it worked well.

We skin them the other direction. Once you cut around the anus and pull the tail back and cut the tail bone, you can simply tie your rope around the tail and bone and do the same thing. Skin em all the way to the nose.
Of course if you want to cape it out for mounting you need to be more careful.
