Why all the broken tines??
 

We hunt on 50 arces in ny for the past 3 years. In that time we have taken 13 buck. Seven have had busted tines four had 3 or more tines broken. Whats the reason for this?

Lots of fighting, buck ratio extremely high or doe in cycle ratio low(heavy comp. for breeding rights), poor food nutrients or combo...then again maybe defect in velvet stage, bugs getting and killing the growth prematurely.

If they are busted off, it either happened when they were fighting or maybe when they were rubbing a tree at the peak of his anger when he gets worked up. Most likey it is from fighting...

Most likely fighting, but if you have a bad coyote or dog problem sometimes a buck will hit trees while being pursued and break their antlers.

Those guys don't have any ideal what their talking about, everyone knows that they eat berries and they get ferminated and by eating them the deer get intoxicated and run into trees, kinda like people do. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle>

Same thing happens on my land when we have a lot of bucks around. They just love to fight during the rut.

Fighting is probibly what is causing it as everyone else has said.

I live in ny also I doubt your problem is to many bucks. For most of the state the ratio is 1 buck to 6+ doe. Usually Its closer to 1 buck for every 8 doe. I'm sure that a couple of them where from fights but more than likely its because of poor nutrition. Or like skeeter said bugs.
