late feb you can start, but march is the golden time, i found 1 side of a spike last year the end of feb in a feild... i can find a 4 inch nub in a giant grass pile cover in mud... but i cant find an 4 or 6 or 8 pointer!

I dont agree with that.. End of february at the earliest? No way. Bucks lose their antlers almost coinciding with the weather.. if it stays warm until january then maybe in february, but the bucks will generally lose their antlers sooner than february.. When the cold weather hits and stays they will be losing their antlers shortly their after.. I live in Pa, and I would say they lose their anlters from the beginning or middle of January. I've seen in late season (which starts Dec. 26th) bucks jump over a fence and antlers fall off. And thats is DECEMBER. End of february? No way!!

Three days before the end of ML a buck came out with two nice red spots on his head. I am not sure if the warm weather is messing with them, but this guy lost his antlers by the 16th of Dec. It was a shame too, he was a big animal well within shooting range. Probably had nice antlers earlier.

My point. Although I'm pretty sure the cold weather change is what usually inhibits the antler loss.
