The Forked Stick

I spent the biggest part of my life turning animals into food, and the forked stick is by far the most useful tool i have ever used.(not counting rifle and knife)

Start by finding a good solid limb that is mostly straight but a slight curve about 2 inches in diameter at the fork.
Make the fork about 5 inches on each side.
Cut the bottom of the limb so that the base of the fork is about the same height as your waste.

It works great as a rifle rest and a walking stick.

put the curve away from you for a crouching shot
towards you for a sitting shot...keep in mind that it will be a small distance out from you, but pushed down into the earth a bit.

Other uses include using the forked end to guide brush and briars away quietly and scentless.
the bottom is good for inspecting scat and tracks too.

Some good things in life are free.

Great resourcefulness. Did you make Eagle Scout?

I think I will use that for my next scout project. I lead a group of wolves (7 year olds)
Thanks

Makes a nice back scratcher, too.

And when the 'nappies' hit you, you can rest your forehead in the fork so your head doesn't roll all over the place and you wake up with a stiff neck.

I was never a part of the cub scouts or boy scouts, so no, I never made Eagle scout.
I use my day pack as a pillow IF I ever decide to nap afield.

The Forked Stick is actually an "invention" past down to me from my grandfather, whom learned it from his father etc...

I use mine for peeing. It lets me pee straight out instead of down and keeps my boots dry.

Oh, I also forgot, we been using them for fishing pole holders for years.
