RE: Anyone know where KS tag system is going next year
some of the family and i are planning a hunt there next fall.........from what i understand it is dependant on the county you are hunting in....all non-resident is a "draw" which is based on the amount of resident tags sold the year before in the county or unit.....call KS fish and wildlife, they are very helpfull...just let them know what unit you want to hunt in and they can look at past odds of getting drawn...........but that also depends on which tag you are going for as well...

Yeah but that was this year and the way is has been. I hear that they are going to change it.

I don't think they've voted on the change, but the word is that they'll go over the counter, which I don't know is a good thing for residents or out of staters. I think it'll drive up leases and hurt access, imo. I guess well find out in the upcoming months.

RE: Anyone know where KS tag system is going next year
Even though OTC has been proposed, it needs to go through Legislature to happen. I would doubt that anyproposed changes will happen to the regs in 2007, but instead in 2008.The initial proposed changes haven't even been revised and proposed to legislation yet.
The NR OTCidea has had an overwelming negative response by both residents and Non-residents. Anyone who attended the KDWP Deer Task Committee meetings, could have came to the easy conclusion. Even Kansas outfitters, and the Kansas Outfitters Associationoppose NR OTC Tags. NR OTC tags are the worst thing that could happen to Kansas hunting right now. The impact it will have on leasing, and hunting pressure will be detrimental. The prized Kansas trophy deer herd isn't nearly what it was 5-10 years ago. And the sad thing is, is that the future isn't looking an better. Kansas has fallen intoalegislative trap, and being managed for "political" reasons. The short term benefits won't come even close to the long term problems which will occur. maybe they will losen up on mule deer tags also Again... some people only look at the short term benefits. Luckily the initial Proposed NR OTC tags, didn't include the western 1/3 of the state, which will still be draw either way. |

yeah i know how the mule deer herd is, they can release more than 40 permits a year.

One other thing, Joey Rott, why do you always try to get your two cents in and jump to conclusions about what peoples long or short term goals are. If you ever see me start a post please dont reply because you are more annoying than you are helpful. I dont even f******* mule deer hunt so you got me on that one. thanks

cwgtahoe,
I'm sorry if you took offense to my post. I answered your original question to the best of my ability, and I also gave my opinion on the topic at hand, just as you and others did. If my answer to your question was not helpful, then hopefully it was to the other people who read the thread. Afterall, that's what the hunting forum is for. If you're looking for any type of hunting advice or information, then Hunting.Net is a great place for it. |
RE: Anyone know where KS tag system is going next year
Here is an email I recieved from Mike Miller who works for the KDWP.
The 2007 season permit situation will be the same as it was for 2006. We are looking at making changes for the 2008 season, but we will have to get some statutes changed during the 2007 legislative session. We are looking at nonresident quotas, not over-the-counter unlimited sales. Most hunters are concerned about consistent trophy buck opportunities, and one way to ensure those is to limit all hunters to one antlered deer. We are considering an any-season whitetail permit for residents only in 2008. This would allow residents to hunt during any season with the legal equipment, but still limit them to harvesting only one antlered deer. Mike Miller Hope that helped some... |
