Taking a few pictures could be priceless if you are challenged and need to prove the damage(s). Pictures of the cows and pictures of the damage(s).

I wouldn't rush to call Johnny Cochran just yet. Oh yea - he's dead. Well I wouldn't rush to call Perry Mason. Oh yea - he's dead, too.

We have had this happen before, Insurance did pay the damages. The cows have to belong to someone. It happens all the time around here. Most livestock owners are very glad to be told about thier strays. I have had MY livestock get out and damage others property. I just take care ofit. It comes with the territory. The local sheriff should help you out.

Legally they are responsible. If the farmer does nothing, guess you will be eating good for the rest of the year. Cow, deer...eats all the same in the end.

I would tell him (if the cows are his) to get his cows out of there first. I would survey the property and see just how much damage has been done.
I agree to the fullest extent

The weird part is our land is bordered on two sides by a river the 3rd side in an interstate highway and the only other way in is down a major powerline. This plot is literally in the middle of 1400 acres. Thinking about going to the local fire work stand and getting a couple of strings of blackcats and machine gunning theme into a stampede.
One thing about cattle, they lalways eave a trail behindthem. Follow the prints and eaten grass back to the point of origin.

You should try taking some of your own advice.....

Definitely contact the farmer or local authorities before anything is done. No matter where you are, you'll most likely be compensated. Like it was said above, you don't want to ruin that by doing something irrational to start with.

I remember hunting some private property years ago in Mississippi and had a cow walk right under my stand. No farms within miles. I spoke to the owner, a friend of a friend, and he just looked at me like I was nuts. Certainly had my heart pumping because I could tell it was big.....and it was, but the wrong species.
