You Call The Shots

Weapon: .270 Winchester
Range: 220 yards
Conditions:
Winds: Light a Variable
The Scoop: This Muley just broke the ridge and is chasing some does. You have a good bearing on him but he is still a little over the hill. Do you hope he chases them over the hill or take the shot? Maybe move into another position?

If i decided that was the deer i was going to take i would not take that shot that is presented. Also if you wound the animal it will get up and run back over the hill without you being able to see it for a follow up shot. I would take my chances that he will follow the does in and get down off of that hill a ways. If your losing shooting time or if he goes back over the hill then i would go to him, but at this point you have to wait it out.

There's noreason to rush the shot. Just wait and see how it plays out. T looks like he's headed towards you anway. You might get a shorter shot.

No way I'd shoot. Either he comes over the crest or I let him go.

Can't see his lungs...no shot. Can't see whats behind what I can't see of him...no shot.

Wait it out....no reason to rush and risk wounding such a great buck.

at 220 yards i could place my bullet in it's eye BUT i would never shoot without knowing what's behind the target. so i would have to wait and see if he'll come closer.

I wait for a better shot, when he is not moving, or I wait for another to passbye.

There's no shot presented in the picture. I'm not about to fling a bullet over the top of the hill to god only knows where...Safety 101 comes first. If he's on the move chaseing does then I'd hope it comes on over the ridge where I have a backstop for my bullet. If not then I might try and make a move to get a shot at him.

I would definitely wait for a better shot than that. No sense wounding him and possibly wounding or killing someone on the other side. He isn't spooked and looks like he is headed your way.. put the glasses on him and just wait it out... you never know if there is one a bit larger behind him anyway!

I'd stay put and hope he takes a couple more steps over the hill.

I would to see if he came over the crest of the hill.

Id wait and see if he does chase the doe's over the hill and mroe then likely if they come over he will too as long as he doesnt see me or smell me so i would wait for a better shot to present its self.

RE: You Call The Shots

This is a no brainer for me. No shot presented, so no shot taken. Taking this shot is not only low percentage, but it is very dangerous. IMO, it would be irresponsible to shoot. Besides, this is a definate wall hanger, I would never even consider putting a slug in the head or neck area and damage the mount.

all though neck shots are very deadly, thats to far of a shot to risk missing

RE: You Call The Shots

Behind the target is hard to conffirm and that wind could be enough to cause me to shoot him in the jaw. If the wind were consistent, I might take the head shot, but only if I was sure what was beyond.

RE: You Call The Shots

No shot, I'd wait him out. This picture shows a very risky shot at best, and not having any backstop, it just ain't a shot!

I wouldn't even be there...I don't want to shoot a mulie. Though if I was I think I would wait for a better shot.
