RE: whats a good deer caliber?
Statistically.30-30 rifles have killed more deer than any other rifle, followed by the .270 and .300 (due to the popularity and lower prices), however like I said it is your money get what you like, depending on your shooting skills just about anything will work.

.308 seems to do the job for me....one of the most accurate calibers hands down and doesnt kick too bad. I would go with at least a 30 caliber so you dont have to spend too much time looking for one you didnt hit good. I think the snipers use .308 and .223's. Just my two cents, but everyone has a favorite rifle. If you hit em right it doesnt matter. I say save your money and get a bow since you already have a 270. you will get addicted to bow hunting and sell your rifle.

.270, .25-06, 30-06, .308, 7mm-08, .243, 6mmRem, .280Rem, 7mm mag, .300 win mag, .257 Roberts, .240 Wby, 250-3000, .444, .45-70, 30-30, .35 Whelen, 6.5 x 57 mauser, .264 win, 7-30 waters, .35 Rem,
there's about 1% of the good whitetail rounds out there without getting into the short mags, bigger magnums and all the wildcats out there... the one you own now will do everything you could ever ask of it inside 500yds, provided you are using a quality bullet and have good optics on your rifle.

I'm sorry......all those guys are trying to lead astray.
What you need is a great gun. One that's easy to kill with.
There's this one very light recoil round, it called the .458 Lott, it's a great gun for kids.Shot one when I was two. (Just Kidding in a very corny way.)
Really, stick with your .270, it's good.
If you want to die,try to fire 60 rounds through a .460 Weatherby.(I think there's such a thing.)
