Mildew on boots!

I have my old but still in great shape Lacrosse ice kings and when I went to get them out of the rubbermaid tote in the closet I found that they have some mildew on them.I went after the mildew with scent killer soap hot water and scrub brushes.I got all of the mildew off of the boots that I can see and put them in front of the pellet stove to dry out.My question is can somebody tell me if I did the right thing or should I rewash them with something else.I mainlly use these boots for late season and ice fishing so that is the reason I just found the mildew.I dont know if I put them away wet or the humidity from this summer got to them.

RE: Mildew on boots!

The mildew resulted from a build up of moisture in your container , possibly from the boots themselves being slightly damp when they were put away . Next time put a silica gel packet or a small bag of salt in with the apparel to absorb the moisture . Lack of moisture will kill off the mildew as well as anything else .
