RE: Entry-level Forestry Positions
I am a freshman at Virginia Tech in the Forestry Department. I would always be interested in possible jobs following college, or even an internship if available.

I am a sophomore at Delta State University in MS, majoring in Environmental Sciences/Wildlife Management. I would be interested in an intern. if it became an option. Also when I graduate, I want to continue my education and get my masters. Do you know if there are any colleges around there that offer it.

RE: Entry-level Forestry Positions
Oklahoma State, I believe Stephen F. Austin does as well. I'm sure there are others nearby that do...maybe LA Tech, Arkansas-Monticello, Texas A&M (not so nearby though).
If you...oranyone elseinterested...e-mail me about itthen I will put you on an announcement list that I will send out asinternships become available. [email protected] ...just make sure you put me on your contacts list, so the announcements do not get sent to your bulk/junk mailbox The interest is very much appreciated! Health, dental and retirement benefits are soon to come for those employeescommitted to the company. A solid background in forestry and wildlife is a must, but a background in business management and promotionwould also be a definite plus.
Ely? I was nearthere this summerin Blackduck, MN. Very cool place. What the heck happened up there this summer? I went up there to get away from the Oklahoma heat and it followed me! 104 degrees at one point! They had a bigrodeo there this summer, didn't they? RE: Entry-level Forestry Positions
Good ole Blackduck, Yeah it was a hot summer all over Minnesota. I don't know about the rodeo since I move back to St. Cloud. But yeah being up that far north was the whole reason I moved up there, but If you don't like the outdoors than it's not going to be the place for ya! Well when I gradutae I will have to keep you in mind, It sounds like a great oppertunity to broaden my knowledge and get to work in the enviorment I love so much!

RE: Entry-level Forestry Positions
USFWC, where were you at 14 years ago when I graduated and was looking for that type of job. I have a forestry and wildlife degree. Ah it worked out, I get to spend most of the winter setting the woods on fire (prescribe burns) and then trying to put other fires out (wild fires). Then my summers I get to go chace fires out west. I work for the state of Georgia as a wildland firefighter.
You might want to contact/advertise this opening atthe schol of forestry atAbraham Baldwin Agriculture College (ABAC)in Tifton Ga. They have a very good wildlife and forestry program. These are 2 year degrees. |
RE: Entry-level Forestry Positions
I believe I was learning to drive about that time!
Thanks for the referral on ABAC, it is very much appreciated! The SAF has a list of 'accredited' schools, but that doesn't include all forestry schools...especially the 2-year programs. I'll check it out. Thanks again! |
RE: Entry-level Forestry Positions
im a forestry transfer major here at ABAC in Tifton GA. im a sophmore here, and in fall ill be headed to UGA for two more years to have my bachelor's in Forestry. hopefully i can get on with you then! PS thanks for the mention of ABAC!

RE: Entry-level Forestry Positions
I think you'll really like UGA. I have met several of the students at the Conclaves the past couple of years and they have all been very nice and personable. They usually do really well in the competition too. Keep us in mind when you start looking for a job. You may check in with us for internships from time to time as well. I had several this past summer that didn't get filled.

I was kind of kidding, kind of not too...you would be surprised how many people graduate with a degree in forestry that have no practical knowledge of it. Glad to see you aren't one of them!
