Ive been on this site for more years than I care to admit. Over the years ive seen the same old arguements and pizzing matches every year.. I live in Ontario Canada and our deer hunting traditions are much different than alot of places people on here people talk about.. I want too share a few things that ive noticed about what actually happens in this province and what people in Ontario think about it,, this is from my discussions and observations.

Leasing,, very minimal in Ontario,, usually a face to face meeting can get you on a farm too hunt with no $$ expected. Unless someone already has permission, then you may get denied. And if you try and lease it out from someone who traditionally has permission,, generally you would get chased off by the owner of the land. They dont want people too pay them,, they feel it gives them more rights on theyre property than they actually have and will disrespect it.

Baiting,, perfectly legal here... I can drop a semi load of bait if I wanted too,, very few people if anyone does it. it may happen,, but the 20+ guys I know that deer hunt,, no one does it or has ever done it.

Party Hunting,, legal and widely accepted. Generally if you arent willing too party hunt with your tag at a gun deer camp,, you will not be invited back.. All meat is split equally at the end of deer camp,, no matter who shoots it. And you had better apply for a doe validation tag for the unit you hunt.

X-bow's,, perfectly legal for anyone too use one during archery season,, no special permits required.. Widely accepted as ethical,, Id bet 50% of archery hunters use x-bow's and you never hear anyone complaining about it.

Deer drives, again legal and widely used. Very rarely if ever you hear anyone complain about drives being done. I know several guys who know what dayscertain areas are going to be pushed traditionally,, and they take advantage of it.

Dogs,, in some areas it is legal too use dogs for driving. Again widely accepted and used in those areas. People find someones lost dog they dont shoot it,, they take care of it like its theyre own animal and try and find the owner(there is actually lost and found for dogs on a local radio station during deer season)

Tresspassing,, it happens but it is not a major problem. If someone is found on property they are told too get out and they usually do immediately without arguement.

Deer theft,, Ive read about people stealing deer at gunpoint. I have never in my life heard of anyone getting jacked for a deer here.. If you come across someone in the bush pulling a deer out,, you offer them a hand!

Encroaching on others,, Ive had people walk in on me while sitting in a stand.. Generally its an "Im sorry" and they either turn around or move along.. I have never had anyone sit down 20-50 yards from me.

Sitting in someones stand,, I have never done it,, and I have never found anyone in my treestand when ive gone out.

Hunting the property line. I can only speak for myself on this one. Adjoining property owners of our camp have very good relations. We actually have areas we can shoot over the fenceline with no reprecussions. A wounded deer makes it to the neighbouring property, go and get it before the yotes do.. If I find it first,, ill gut it for you and haul it back too your camp on my atv!

Trophy hunting,, everyone wants too shoot a big buck.. but basicly its brown its down and everyone congratulates the hunter,, you may get ribbed if you shoot a button buck,, but thats the nature of the game!
