Yes, I'm 34. Yes, it wasn't a buck. But after 3 hard years of deer hunting, my patience finally paid off with not just one, but TWO does.
Long story; short....it was 4:45 in the afternoon on Monday and I had almost given up. I was hunting in Carroll County, MD on about a 100 acre farm. I was just finished texting my wife that I was going to pack up and head out of the woods when a small doe just "appeared" out of nowhere about 25 yards from my stand. I centered on her and took the shot. Since I had never shot a deer before, when she lunged back and ran off, I thought I had missed. Then not 30 seconds later, I saw another - much larger - doe way down in a ravine about 110 yards away. Since I was hunting with a slug gun, I didn't have much confidence or hope. But since it was my last chance of the day, I slowly got her in my scope and shot. DOWN SHE WENT IN HER TRACKS!! After my guide and I got her dressedand after he'd complimented my on what a great shotgun shot it was,I remember about my shot at the first smaller doe. I told him I wasn't sure if I'd hit her or not. Well, we went back to the spot and sure enough we found a blood trail. She had gone not 50 yards towards the water and laid down.
What a great feeling to bag my first deer and to have my luck happen twice in 45 seconds!
I'M HOOKED! (see pics attached)
