Have you ever seen a cow or horsethat has "foundered". It happens when they eat too much feed/grass. The long turned up hoves is a direct result of foundering. Any cattle farms around or maybe hunter using feeders? Has a good rack!

this was from my cousins e-mail: He's from MN.

This was in the Sunday's edition of the Winona Daily.

This buck was a truck kill near Alma. DNR said that high
protein, specifically corn was the cause of the abnormal feet. The deer
is currently sitting in the alma bait shop freezer.

Very strange indeed. Seems to me a read an article about deer with that condition, but I can't recall what magazineit was.

The statement made in that article is a little confusing to me. I always thought that corn has very little protein, as it is mostly carbs.

Same thought here - Soy beans much higher Protein than Corn - High in Carbs??? Either the story/paper/DNR is wrong or there's something else about the corn in this specific area that would cause this condition??

Corn is a terrible source for protein, very low. Its a carbohydrate.

Deer have been eating corn as long as man has been growing corn. That can't be it, can it?
