RE: 410 slugs for deer ?????
My 410 is older than I am and I'm going to try buckshot for deer with it.Same problem,my grand-son is 9 and small framed. He killed his first squirrel and thinks he's ready for the big time. Here in Florida it is legal so we're going to try and see how it shoots the buck shot,at "bow"range.
Hunting is not a sport,it's a lifestyle. |
RE: 410 slugs for deer ?????
Hey 3030,
That's probally no dumber than wrapping a .32 caliber pistol round with tape so that it'd fit the bore of my .410- but what the heck, when you can't find .410 shells a fella has got to improvise if he wants to get a little range time. Mind you this was 30+ years ago when kids used to have rock fights, BB gun fights, slap fights...... Ahhhhh, those were the good 'ol days!!! Eightwgt, I let my son use that same .410 when he was small but I never liked the fact that it's only safety mechanism was the hammer. When I took him dove hunting( not the best gun for dove hunting) he would have a bird coming in, prepare to shoot which many times included setting the hammer only to have the bird flare off. He was 10 yrs old with a loaded gun in the fire position with nothing to fire at!! I didn't trust his thumb to be able to hold the hammer and lower it to a "safe" position so I was always having to do it for him. We also used it to deer hunt but never took a deer with it. Best thing that I ever did was when I bought him a Mossberg .20 pump when he was 11. 2nd trip to the dove fields he took 8 birds home in his bag. He is now 13 and uses a Remington 12 gauge auto. My how they grow so fast!!!!!(and so is his gun collection) YEEEEHAAWWWWWW!!!! MARK IN S.C. |
