Velvet Mount
Hi Guys (and gals),
I am posting this question on behalf of my brother. This past weekend in Wisconsin he shot a nice 8pt, that turned out to still be in velvet. My question is how should we preserve it before we get it to the taxidermist? Should we stick it in the freezer, keep it out? Never shot one like this before so we have no idea.
Thanks.
ps. Its legal to shoot a deer in velvet in Wisconsin during gun season, you just have to notify the DNR with in 7 days. Which we have done.

RE: Velvet Mount
I saw a buck mounted in velvet at my taxidermist's this year and I asked him about it. He says they have a spray on velvet now. The old velvet was already peeling when he brought the deer in so the taxidermist stripped all the old velvet off and sprayed this stuff on. It looked very real - even close up.
