All around hunting round for 30-06?

What would you guys say (in your humble opinions of course) be the best all around bullet for deer hunting with a 30-06. I use 180gr winchester springfield silvertip.A little over-kill probably but I really want to knock'em down. My guess would be the 150gr corelok.

Good guess. Thats what i use and some times spire tip boat tails but i like the core-lok ones better but keep them 150 grains or less i find any higher and your just gonna be wasting to much meat.

I don't use an 06' but my deer sized game bullet is the 150 NBT out of 7mm rem mag. Others have worked but I just keep coming back to it when nov. rolls around as it shoots and works great.

If closer range the 180gr in astandard cup and core bullet is a goodchoice. Or step up to a better constructed bullet and if you want you can lower gr size. At longer ranges then you can drop down with the standards or premiums to gain trajectory, etc. Most 06' shooters I knowsettle in with 165gr bullet for deerthough each rifle is different and of course usage. Many here hunt elk, whitetails and deer sized with the same gun butnot wanting touse 2 bullets they elect to give up some speed for a 180 gr or move to a lighter premium for all the game they pursue. Boils down to matching your situation with the right bullet and picking the one that shoots best.

A150 gr vs180 gr of equal construction if the same spot is hit will not yield more damage. Velocity will be sustained longer, lower sectional density, etc combined for the result of larger holes.Put either behind the shoulder and it doesn't waste enough meat to matter! Hit bone and expect to be doing some extra trimming!

Good luck

Yes, Core-Lokt 150 is a great choice. I like Hornady as well, but a little pricey.

a 150gr Core Lokt is just fine for whitetails out of the 06. Deer arn't armor plated and do not require a premium bullet. I still say the best bullet in any gun though is the one you're rifle shoots the best reguardless of weight.
