Same here in Virginia. Especially up in the mountains (Blue Ridge Mts) where it's real heavy thick woods. Youhavea 50 yards shot mostly - maybe75 at max. Heck, my Marlin 30-30 doesn't have scope. I took it off last season (after it lost its "zero" and the reticle busted somehow).

M1 Garand in 30-06, of course. Remington 150 gr Core lokts and iron sights. Yeah baby!

Remington Model 700, .270win. A great gun, the only downside is that I got the basic 3-9 scope and higher light collection would be nice (since deer are most active at dawn and dusk anyway).
