how far can a 30-30 shoot?
 

i have an old 30-30 about 15 or20years old, what the maximum shot these guns can shoot, i dont know if some of the new ones can shoots better but im guessing there still about the same?

I like the old 30-30 alot. Many people say it's under powered, but i've dropped deer at 100 yards. I would say 150 yards max, just to be safe. I've gut shot deer with the 30-30 and they only went 50 yards. IT's a good gun out to 150.

With the new Hornady LeverEvolutions, 200+ yard shots are VERY possible, but with old style ammo, I keep my shots at 100 yards or less. I am shooting LeverEvolutions this year but have not tried them at over 100 yards at the range yet.

I love my 30-30, and with regular ammo it can easily shoot to 100 yards. Witht he new leverolution ammo it will shoot out to 200+

My old model 94 shoots 150 gn factory loads out to about 150 yds.The new leverevolutions it would be better but most my shoots are less than 100 yds.

Go to the range and see what YOUR ability with it is. If you can hit a 4" circle at 100 yards then you can shoot that far. If you can do it at 150 yards then you can shoot that distance. If you can only do it at 50 yards then YOUR effective range is 50 yards. Don't be tempted to shoot farther and wound an animal just because the bullet will go farther.

Ok you dont need an new ammo to shoot 200 yards with a 30-30 I was recently in Idaho hunting for bear and my cousin my friend and I where shooting at ballons we had blown up across the sage brush (really fun to do) and ways we had them set up from 50-400 yards my 30 30 busted everything from 50-200 by holding right one them! and btw did this without a scope! I love my 3030

I have a new style marlin 30-30 lever action, and i get my gun sighted in a 100 yards every year. My dad shot a deer 2 years ago at 200 yards the deer dropped in its tracks. I shot my 8 pointer at 150 yards on the move.

I have shot the 3030 for nearly 40 years and have flat out worn out one gun just because I shoot 400 plus rounds a year thru them. I would never shoot at deer beyond 250 yards just because of lost energy at that range. Yes I can hit target at 400 yards but paper and ballons are not deer and your game deserves more respect than just the ability to hit it, they deserve a quick clean kill. Thanks.
