Default Good Caliber

243 is a good caliber. Just practice alot and be sure of shot placement.

In the last 5 years my son has taken 8 deer and his best friend 2 with the same .243, and I have taken several hogs with it. All with Core-lokt 100 grain ammo. The .243 is a great WT gun without question, even though I use a .270.

Wish I could find corelokts for 7.99 again like they did in 2006 when this thread started.

I'd buy a truck load of them.

Crazy to think they've gone up that much since I've started hunting. Only way you'll spend that much on them is to buy the bullets and handload them.

I really like the Federal Premiums with the Sierra game king in my 243. Holes touch at 100 yrds and the deer very rarely runs more than 30 yrds. I havn't shot further than 250 yrds though

First rifle I ever hunted deer with was an old Winchester model 100 in 243 handed down to me by my father. Killed a pile of deer with it. Good shot placement and a 100 grain cor-lock was always deadly for me back then. I doubt deer have become immune to the same combination. LOL!
