RE: deer stands
Here is a climber stand I made, only problem is that you have to bear hug the tree and pull yourself up. A lot of guys on this forum think it doesn't look safe, but I have been using this design for 20 years and I have never had it slip, break or creak while up in a tree.

RE: deer stands
Are you on private land that you own? I have my own land that I hunt on year after year and I don't have to worry about public access to the land, so what I do is get some 2 x 4 's and some plywood and build me a sturdy one up in a tree that I have seen deer passing year after year. Paint that thing green / brown / black and you are good to go. Durabilty is good, too. I have had some up in trees for well more than 5 years and counting. Just go out and check each year for weathering and replace wood as needed. You can also use a pallet up in a tree. Sounds redneck, yes I know, but my redneck "pallet stand" as we call it, killed a 12 pointer last year!

RE: deer stands
if your looking for metal ladder stands or hang on stands look through bass pro's catalog and copy a design you like. For a ladder stand I would use 1" tubing for a single man or 1.5" tubing for a bigger 2-3 man stand. Also if you build a ladder stand make sure the ladder is about 1-2 degrees out of square with the platform for easeof climbing.

RE: deer stands
im making one in welding class at school. It is has a bracket that u rachet on the tree. then you slid the platform in the bracket and use a mountain climber clip to attach the chain to the end of the platform. Hopefully i can get some pics on when i get done with it.
