Use of a rifled choke tube how good are they?

HI all, I had to sell my h&r ultra slug shotgun to pay bills, and am now stuck with rifles and smoothbore shotguns. I have to use a shotgun in the lower half of michigan. My question is how much does a rifled choke tube do for you? I like the ballistics of sabot slugs much more than rifled ones. If I can get a decent group at 100 yards w/ my mossberg 500 I would be happy. just looking for a little insight. Thanks

My buddy tried one on his smoothbore and his trajectory got worse, and it was no more accurate than just the fosters with the choke removed. He was using a model 870 I believe. I think you'll be fine without it IMO.

Mossburg actually has a cantaleverd barrel thats rifled. Its only like 75 bucks. I got mine on ebay and it works great. I tried the rifled choke thing and wasnt really pleased with it. I can hold groups to 3 inches at 100 yards. The other thing you might consider is skipping the rifled choke and get rifled slugs. They work a little better i think than the rifled choke. Still not quite as good as the rifled barrel but then again i guess its all choice.

3" Group at 100 was with the rifled barrel not the rifled choke. The choke i was licky to keep them within 12" at 25 yards.

You shouldn't be using any rifling with a rifled slug anyway, that's why it didn't do anything good. Only unrifled projectiles should be shot with a rifled barrel or choke tube.
