RE: Got Shoulder Mount Back
That is a good looking deer, but it is no 174 in. buck, i would say 130's 140's tops.....

RE: Got Shoulder Mount Back
Actually you're right it isn't 174. I looked it up and it's only 172 2/16. (I was going by memory.)

RE: Got Shoulder Mount Back
K, here's the deal guys, I'm not going to argue w/you about score. The whole point of me posting this was for you guys to see his buck and hopefully for you guys to congratulate him as I did. After the first doubtful response, I did some checking on the contest (http://www.vpsa.org/) scoring and there are some differences:
SCORING DEER: The Virginia Big Game Contest uses the Virginia Scoring System which was developed by George Johnson in 1945. To the best of our knowledge the Virginia Scoring System predates the Boone & Crockett Scoring System used by many other states. Both Systems have many similarities in scoring. Primary differences is the tip to tip measurement, use of outside beam measured and the way non-symmetry is calculated. So if anyone feels that I "misled" them I'm sorry. The point was and is: Isn't it a nice buck? It's a lot nicer than anything I've ever killed. |
RE: Got Shoulder Mount Back
TN, it's a great buck, and I don't understand myself the obsession with estimating scores anyway. Who really cares, beautiful animal, no matter what the "official" score is. Pictures can be deceiving as well. :)
Tell him congrats from a huntin' girl who doesn't give a flying rat's patootie about scores... ;) |
RE: Got Shoulder Mount Back
Thanks Buck Huntin Girl! I gave him the link so I'm sure he's readin'
|
RE: Got Shoulder Mount Back
The score really doesn't make me any difference either way, but I would say that is a dang nice buck!!!
Congrats to the hunter!!!!!:) |
RE: Got Shoulder Mount Back
Great buck... isn't over 145 though. Who cares anyway/
|
RE: Got Shoulder Mount Back
Very nice...really like the living room!
|
RE: Got Shoulder Mount Back
Sorry ,I didn't mean to sound angry or anything but on a hunting forum if you post something that is simply not representitive of the truth than people are going to call you on it. Yes I do think it's a very nice buck none the less. Congrats to your friend.

RE: Got Shoulder Mount Back
TNH I was not trying to take away from your buddy's deer(Its a great buck). When you said it scored 172+ as a 9 pt i was expecting something a little different. If its a different scoring system so be it, thanks for the clarification. Good luck......

RE: Got Shoulder Mount Back
congrats to your cousin! I wish I could get one like that.
|
RE: Got Shoulder Mount Back
GREAT BUCK!!!LOVE THE ROOM!!!

RE: Got Shoulder Mount Back
I agree, that is a great buck and its definately bigger than anything i've ever shot, I was really wondering how it scored over 170, but now that you explain it, it makes sense. tell him nice buck.
