killed a strange buck tonight
 

i killed this buck right before dark tonight with a 30-30 from about 30 yards. didnt run far at all. he wasnt broke up, just had a strange rack!

I saw one kind of like that the other day. One side was a pretty normal looking 3 point rack and the other side was a long spike that bent almost straight back. Would have liked to have taken him out of the gene pool, but didn't want to burn a buck tag on him.

most likely the buck injured the right side of his head at some point which just stopped the growth over on that side.

I thought that if a buck was injured somewhere on the left side the right side of the rack may be deformed......not the same side as an injury?

That's like the deer my family kills around here. One side will pretty with 3-4 points and the other will be two little goat horns. I'll have to scan the picture of the buck I killed two years ago. He had a rack stranger than that

managment buck, get them all out of the heard if you can. thats why you see alot of them. bad genes
