What about snow?

We are looking at snow all weekend for the rifle opener here in VT. How will the deer respond to this?

RE: What about snow?

In my experience the cold will promote deer movement most of the time.

Problem is some people will not head out due to it being so cold and take the chance on not capitalizing on the deers movement. So, make sure you are prepared if you do head out.

Good luck!

you need to be in the woods, deer move in the snow, and most hunters wimp out. i got caught in a snow storm 2 weeks ago in montana, and the hunters went home and i satayed out. tagged out in 2days.be tuff and hunt hard.

don't fear the night
fear what hunt's at night

I always like it when it snows easier to see the deer. Your getting the same storm we are its just enough to cover the ground this is perfect hunting weather. Plus if you need to do any tracking you'll be able to see a blood trail alot easier. Good luck with your hunt.

We had rain followed by snow followed by clod last night. Made for some loud woods this morning. Deer can't move quietly on frozen leaves either.... I could hear them from pretty far away.

Up here in Manitoba that is quite normal. We still go out for the opener but we are prepared for the cold also. It also makes for good tracking as they move around more looking for food and water and females if it is the rut. Just be prepared and good luck.

If there is more than a foot of snow deer movement will slow.

Snow is your best friend during deer season.

They will be out and about because THEY get cold also.

You can see 'em about a hundred miles away.

Even the most INexperienced tracker can follow a blood trail in the snow.
