deerstand
Hello ladies and gentlemen, I have a question concerning a climbing stand. My question is what is a good heigth for the treestand. I am hunting in the Kiamichi wilderness in southeastern Oklahoma and the pine trees are at least 35 to 40 feet tall. Watching all of the hunting shows on TV they look real high, but not sure how high. So what do yall think?

RE: deerstand
Well it depends on tree limbs and how high u want to go or feel safe going.

RE: deerstand
For bow i never set a stand less than 15 ft. When i am using my climber for rifle i go up as high as i can b4 i think i am going to pee myself. I like to get up to that 20 foot range or so because i often skimp on my scent elimination when rifle hunting.

RE: deerstand
It really depends if you can have some cover behind your background and also a little on the sides to break you up.20 to 25FT is good enough.30 to 35 in tall open timber.

RE: deerstand
The height will depend on where you are hunting - but good rule is as high as you can given the area, and still being safe to the tree. You need to maintain an affective shot to the run yu are hunting and this will mandate differing heights for bow and rifle. Also, make sure you practice in your door yard so you understand how high you are/feelsafe - learning this at 3:30am in the dark and cold is notwise.

RE: deerstand
i personaly hunt between 15 and 23 feet but thats for bowhunting ..... any higher seems to produce a greater chance on a one lung shot
