difference between does and fawns

ive been hunting for about 5 years now. but ive always had a problem determining if its a doe or a fawn. its not that bad when they come out together but when its just a single one its hard. any hints or anything that could help me? thanks

It's always nice to have deer come in as a group to distinguish the size between them. If you have a lone deer, look at the head. Mature does usually have a longer head. Fawn's heads will be short. And of course if you see little buttons on the head, then it's a young buck. Other than that I don't know what to tell you. I'm sure other people have more ways of telling.

As Piebalddoe said a fawn will have a short snout and an adult doe will have a much longer snout.

Yup the best way to tell is the short snout!!! A fawns snout is obviously shorter and more "square looking"!
Look at this picture it's a good oneand find the differeces!!

Very welll done and saved me some typing. Thank you for that Ed.

It's not difficult if you pay attention and learn the animal you are hunting, especially with binos or a scope, there should be no mistaken kills if you don't want them to be.

BIG FLOPPY EARS, Does have big floppy ears and yearligns and fawns have short rounded ears.

A good rule of thumb I use, is if I have to wonder then it is probably a fawn, usually, not always if it is a doe you know it's a doe, you don't have to wonder.

First off if it has spots, it's a fawn. The best way I tell them apart is the size of their body. An adult doe has a long nose. A fawns face is shorter than an adult does. A big doe usually is the same size as a small buck.

Also a doe has more detail to her face. Along with the longer face you'll notice the large blood vesselsdown her nose. Younger deer are more smooth looking.
