scent
I always try to stay away from the camp fire with my hunting cloths. Someone told me that the smoke helps cover up your human scent. I just don't understand his logic. What tricks do you know to help me out? I alway use a cover up spray. Is that good enough.

RE: scent
Cover spray is a good start , I use Fresh Earth and Deer Dander personally , but using smoke from a campfire as a cover scent goes back to the very first hunters and is still in use today because it works . Much like cover sprays you don't need to do it , but it doesn't hurt anything .

RE: scent
Alot of camps and homes up this way use wood stoves for heat.
Some use them to take the chill out while others it is the only way of heating. Have you ever seen deer in a field with smoke coming out of someones chimney? If so you could probaly guess smoke would hang around the field and woods that the deer live in to. So in some areas deer are used to wood smoke being around them. And if deer are use to the wood smoke why not use it. To sum it up, if the deer in your area are used to wood smoke then it makes perfect sence to use it. Good Luck |
RE: scent
Yea I heard that smoke from a campfire is a cover sent also but I also heard that it would spook some deer.
I use Sent Kiiler from Wildlife Research on my hunting clothes and gear , then before I walk to my stand I'll use those sent waffers ( earth ) and spray some Deer Dander on as well . |
RE: scent
I never use cover spray however I will use the scent elimination sprays, specifically Scent Killer to minimize my scent as much as possible.

RE: scent
I use Hunster's Specialties Fresh Earth Spray Scent-A-Way and it works darn good! It works so good that they cant smell me when there by my ladder. Which is right directly under my stand. And not one caught me yet. You can buy this stuff at Walmart.
