Well I scored him last night. I was in a hurry but I got him at 136 7/8 gross and 130 5/8 net nontypical with a 17 1/2 inside spread. He had almost 17 inches of nontypical points. I would say these scores are within a couple inches. I've got the head and cape in the freezer waiting for the taxidermist to be ready for him so I will probably rescore him when I have a little more time to take on it. Thanks for all the nice words about him. I am proud of him. I didn't see but a couple of the nontypical points before I decided to take the shot.
Story behind him -
I was hunting from a tower blind overlooking about a five acre oat patch that we planted in a creek bottom. It is surrounded by head high dead grass and trees etc. I had turned to look behind me and when I turned around he was already about 15 yards into the oat patch angling towards me at a trot. I put the scope on him and could see that he was a mature deer with at lease a couple of sticker points. I decided quickly to take a shot if possible. He turned broadside at about 140 yards and one shot from my 270 weatherby through the front shoulders and it was all over. I was really suprised when I walked up and started counting points and came up with 15 scorable points. I spend a lot of time at our lease feeding ,scouting, driving around etc and had never seen this deer. Now all that awaits is a trip to the taxidermist and picking a place for him on the wall. I will now have a 130 net typical and a 130 net nontypical on the wall - both from Central Texas an area not known for decent bucks. Thanks again for the nice words.
