Default Man, did I get a bad hit today

First day of bow in MD today, and I saw a nice spike, went past me at 20 yards, but didn't have time to grab my bow, by the time I stand up and get anchored, he's almost totally faced away from me but slightly quarters. So in my split second, I figured at 30 yards I could squeeze that arrow into his heart without hitting the gut. Man, I hit it in the hind (missed my mark by 4", but it dropped like a rock and bled like you would't believe. I have seen that before, I guess its hitting that artery back there. No tracking, but disppointed when I get a bad hit like that. Something so gradifying about getting that heart shot.

Anybody else see that?

You know I was in this situation last year. 7pt first day bow, and thought to myself, no problem, 2 does, thats a one day hunt. Yea, right, last year I got covered up with bucks, small ones. It took me 2 months to get the 2 does, and then never saw another buck worth shooting. By that time gun rolled around.

Thanks Dave, see anything?

Seems like I'm in the other boat. Good shots and they run a mile.

Congrats though!

Very lucky I agree. Worst/best shot ever made ona deer. Thats hunting however. Sooner or later anybody who hunts long enough will make them. All one can do is remember it.
