the red deer rut we call it the roar, sometimes the big fellas moan and it can sound like a growl,
does make the hair stand on end at times.

One time my wife and I were camping at a campgroud. Early one evening, we heard a terrible growl down over the hill from our camping spot. We heard it several times throughout the evening.

I'll admit I was a bit scared. It sounded like a bear or lion type growl. My wife thought it was a bear but I said that a bear just wouldn't growl over and over again like that. This growling went on all evening.

There was a hunting preserve in the area this noise was coming from. I was never quite sure what we heard that nite until several months later, I was watching a show on Animal Planet about red deer.

Yep, you guessed it. It was a red deer we heard that nite. I never knew a deer could sound like that. I knew they had red deer inthe preserve justnever heard them roar.
