Buddy System
Hi everyone
I just wanted to know how many use the buddy system and what your reasons are. I my self like hunt with freinds and buddys, I think its much safer and we can share the thrill and memoreies not to mention take each others pictures. |
RE: Buddy System
I almost always go hunting with my dad. It's not only safer but it gives my wife peace of mind when I'm out.Our hunting spots usually contain a tree stand and severalground blinds within 100-200 yards of each other. We also can communicate with two-way radios to brag toone another about what game we're seeing. :)

RE: Buddy System
Using the buddy system is the only way I enjoy hunting. It is a time to get out and enjoy nature with family and friends. It is really the best way to go enjoy Northern Wisconsin, after the hunt go oink around in the smaller towns.

RE: Buddy System
I enjoy hunting with friends but like to be out in the woods alone. It is a time to be with myself and get away from everyone. I hunt both, with a buddy and alone.

RE: Buddy System
I enjoy hunting with my dad everytime we get a chance. I also like going with my grandfather when he is feeling up to it. The both taught me just about everything I know about hunting
I can't wait for my childern to grow up and hopefully want to go with me and their grand dad. I also take my wife when she has time along with 1 other friend who only gets to hunt a couple days a year in my area. |
RE: Buddy System
buddy is aka saftey..
i take my wife and show her where we're gonna be, stand and all. she knows what time to expect us and if not home within 30-45 mins. passed that time and no call, she's to come looking.. that is how i was raised.. i also do this with fishing.. you never know if no one knows where your at and something happens, no one knows where to start looking.. SAFTEY SAFTEY SAFTEY |

RE: Buddy System
i'llalways let someone know where i am and if i get down to stalk, i tell them what direction i should be going in......2 people know where every one of my stands are , just in case....if they arent hunting , someone knows where i'll be or at least how to contact the 2 folks that know where i am.....

RE: Buddy System
I prefer hunting with a buddy, usually keep withing 500-600 yds of each other. Although now with the gps units we scout out an area, determine where we want to be and mark the waypoints. The two way radios are also handy, if legal. I have hunted by myself and would not hesitate to do it needed, but I always let someone know exactly where I'll be and when to come looking.

RE: Buddy System
I 99% of the time hunt with a buddy, just seems more enjoyable to share the time with a good friend/family especially if its someone you have hunted with for years.

RE: Buddy System
I prefer to hunt with a buddy, but I will go it alone. I just take a few more precautions. Having someone out there with sure makes bring that trophy buck back to the truck a lot easier.

RE: Buddy System
On our hunts we hunt in groups of 2 our camp consists of 6-8 members...
We both spot and when we see a shooter, one will stock while the other keeps an eye on his apprroach... We harvest alot of big bucks this way... Buddy system not only helps that way or in the way of inury one may sustain while in the field......... Its also alot safer cause of the very very high ratio of Grizzly bears in areas that we hunt... We usually see 6 -8 Grizzlies within 500 -1000yards of us a day... Once the game is on the ground we drag it into the open so we have a clear view of anything that approaches.... While one is field dressing the other is on guard (with gun fully loaded )on the lookout forbears... Oncethe meat and and antlers are the packed up, we get out.... We pack heavy so we only have the one trip... Its too unpredictable the second time...... We've done this for years, and just last week my brother and cousin had their first bear encounter with a Sow Grizzly that had 3 cubs with her...... That Grizzly charged them at 125yrds away, and by the time both had their gun up to their shoulder the bear was only 25yrds away, when they both put a bullether ... Who knows what would have happened if they were alone and only one shot was fired or if the bear was closer........ Buddy system is the only way to go when hunting the HighCountry of British Columbia.... |
RE: Buddy System
Almost never. I always let my sweetie know exactly where I'm going and which stand on that property. She's been to them all and would know how to find me if needed. She knows that if I don't call by a certain time...come a lookin.

RE: Buddy System
I usually have my 2 best buddies with me every season, but this year is going to be different. My Brother is coaching his son's football team and will be consumed during most of Bow season with practice and games. My Dad is in the hospital and is having knee replcement surgery and will be out of comission until the beginning of the year.
Looks liek I need a new buddy or I'll go at it alone. Anyone want to hunt in WV this year???? |
RE: Buddy System
I prefer to hunt alone , I'm not opposed to buddy hunting , but that's just that much more noise and movement to spook the game.

RE: Buddy System
I hunt alone. Not by choice though.

RE: Buddy System
I use the buddy system too. It gives you the feeling of safety in numbers and a real friend to assist if you are dragging something out. Also, you can compare notes at the end of a hunt on what you saw or did not see and cover twice the area! Also, with today's technology we can talk or text what we're seeing or if one guy is getting down to walk or do a small bump on some thickets in an attempt to push.

RE: Buddy System
To me the comrauderie is a hugh part of my hunting experience. The anticipation and excitement we share as a group is priceless.
I hunt with family (sons) and friends. Nothing to do with the "Buddy System". I don't feel safer in numbers, I'm a big boy and can take care of myself. Of course someone knows where I am all the time. I leave a note at the camp every day explaining who's hunting where. If I'm alone and have not "checked-in" by a certain time, I will see guys withing one hour. If my buddies are there, great we hunt together, if not, you'll find me in the woods by myself. My last two bucks, I dragged out myself. That seems to be my best chance - when I find myself hunting alone for a few days while the other guys are back at work hoping to get a call from me. Having others in the woods with me adds to the thrill because we're always there for each other. Hearing that shot when you KNOW who it is, is a feeling hard to describe. Plus, we all do whatever we can to increase the odds of a new guy punching his tag. That's what it's all about. |
