ANY ONE EVER SLEPT IN THEIR STAND ..... OVERNIGHT?
I have personally never done this. But have heard of people that have accually slept in thier stand, overnight? This has been due to them being scared of somthing, got lost in the dark and made thier way back to the stand and just went back up and slept it out. Any input. KEEP HUNTING THE GREAT OUTDOORS & GOD ALIVE, PASS IT ON! |

I wouldn't want to try it. Would be easy to fall out.

fell asleep on the ground once i remember the sun warming me up and a
very peaceful feeling.....woke up at 10.30 pm no flash light no idea of where i was got back to the house at about 11.00 pm to a very worried and pissed off wife! |
RE: ANY ONE EVER SLEPT IN THEIR STAND ..... OVERNIGHT?
Maybe if I was in a Tree Lounge I could sleep there. But I'm doubting it. The only time I have really slept in the woods intentially was when I shot my last arrow at a deer and couldn't find it. So I went back to my stand and laid down at the bottom to wait on a buddy to return from his stand. Of course I was awaken two hours later by a 4pt buck walking around looking for a doe. Definetly a weird morning.

RE: ANY ONE EVER SLEPT IN THEIR STAND ..... OVERNIGHT?
i have never slept in my stand but i have been known to climb down and take a midday nap at the base of my tree i hunt out of a summit bush master not big enough for me to sleep in without being scared of waking up hanging from my harness

I've often considered it as our rifle stands are plenty big enough to comfortably sleep a person. Just tie yourself in and you'll be alright. Use your safety harness and then tie yourself in with a hoist rope. There have been times when I knew I couldn't stay awake in stand so I just tied myself in and went to sleep. This was in the morning though.

I have never personally done this, but I know a guy that has a lease not far from mine. He did not sleep in his stand the entire night. He went to his stand about 3 to 4 hours before daylight so he would not disturb anything because he was hunting a big buck. He awoke right at the crack of dawn to a big 10 point.

RE: ANY ONE EVER SLEPT IN THEIR STAND ..... OVERNIGHT?
One of my friends sleeps in his stand during midday all the time, but not evernight.
No telling how many deer he's missed. He's got a climber that has a high rail on the top piece so he's pretty comfortable up there. I would never try it with the hang-on stand that I've got. Keep 'em all in the Bull. |
RE: ANY ONE EVER SLEPT IN THEIR STAND ..... OVERNIGHT?
I doze off once in a while if I'm real tired. I found that if you stand up it'll help you wake up. Because sometimes you don't always get to bed when you should.

back when i lived in adk of ny and had a live in g/f, i did once. had a huge fight i grabed my stuff and headed out around midday, had a ground blind that i used, so i pitched up in there and camped out for 4 days, had my whisperlite and a few nalgene;s of water so i was set, it was rather fun, ate ramen noodles and did lots of hiking, had a few shots at some spikes and a forkhorn but i let them slide,

RE: ANY ONE EVER SLEPT IN THEIR STAND ..... OVERNIGHT?
I have slept in a tree when I used to be part of a recreational tree climbing group. They use special equipment though.. a hammock designed for it, and always stay tied into a rope. I also used to be a professional tree surgeon, and occasionally will climb a tree when hunting. If I had the right gear I think I would spend the night in the tree and hunt from there when the sun came up.. that way you would not have to get up so dang early.. :)

I too have dosed off in the stand a couple of times. I try not to do it regularly but I look at is as I have a better chance dosing off in the woods than sleeping in at home.

Another thing I done was put my deer cam out at the spot I was going to hunt a couple days early and was to meet up with some hunting partners. I got there about 45 minutes before daylight and fell asleep as I waited on them. They never showed up. I woke up about an hour fter daylight and went to my stand. when I got down I checked my camera and the roll was full. I went and got the pic's developed and had hogs all around my stand why I wasn't there. LOL

RE: ANY ONE EVER SLEPT IN THEIR STAND ..... OVERNIGHT?
My son and I built a wooden stand in a large oak tree. It was big enough for both of us to bed down for the night very comfortably. It looked kind of like a crow's nest on a ship's mast with a ladder up the tree and a floor hatch to enter the stand. We even had a waterproof roof on it and a 3 ft. wall all around. Just perfect for sitting in a lawn chair and using the wall for a gun rest. Many times during the '90's I spent the night up there. We shot many deer, turkey, coyote, and squirrel from up there. In 1999 lightening struck a nearby tree and the tree fell onto our crow's nest and pretty much destroyed it. Don't know if we'll ever fix it up again. I'm getting too old and my son is off to another town doing the hubby and daddy thing. Some of my very best hunting memories were made up there.

The Tree Lounge, Doc's Recliner or BuckShot stands can be slept in without falling out. I don't know about all night though.
It would be dangerous to do so in cold weather because of exposure. You might never wake up again! Sag. |
RE: ANY ONE EVER SLEPT IN THEIR STAND ..... OVERNIGHT?
that might be true because of the cold. i dunno it sounds kinda fun to sleep in over night. migh have to try it if i can bundle up well enough.

That's sad Elsie.

RE: ANY ONE EVER SLEPT IN THEIR STAND ..... OVERNIGHT?
Joel5..I dont know..I think it would be more sad if Elsie never had those memories to start with. Good for you for hunting with your boy, Elsie! I'm doing the same with my boy (he's 6 so we're just getting started). I'm looking forward to many years of being in the outdoors with him, but I also know it will have end sometime. I hope I do as well as you did ;)
