Thanks Royak,I will start from the weekend before opening day. I went to deer camp thats in Milam co. Texas to clean up camp and scout for a good place to set up my tripod. I took my bow and hunted that sunday morning I did not see any deer but saw a set of big tracks and a rub line. The next weekend, opening day of gun season I went back friday night and set up my tripod in the feild so I could see the rub line.Sat morning it srarted raining hard, I went out because only because Its opening day, it rained and rained I didn't see a thing. Sat afternoon I went out in the slow steady rain saw a spike and two yotes. Sunday morning I got up and the rain had stoped. It was one of those mornings that the wind was slow and the fog very thick. On the way to my tripod I told my hunting bud that I could feel that it was going to be a great morning.I was in my stand about 5:45.I put out some trailsend buck in rut and looked for first light to come over the hill. About 7:00 I pulled out my rattaling bag and started some light rataling and grunting.I did this every 30 min.did not see a thing. At 8:30 I went for broke and started rattaling hard and and grunting like two bucks in a big brawl. At 9:oo I saw movement at around 500 yards coming across the feild. It was hard to see what it was because of the fog.I looked into my bionocs and see a nice rack he is about 400 yards crossing the feild at a good clip and he was looking for a fight.I turned my scope to 450 yards and tracked him as he looked for the other buck getting into it.At that point I was praying for him to stop.He had about 30 yards before he disappeared into the oak thickit I grunted as hard as I could and the big boy stoped.I put the cross hairs in the zone,my hart was raceing I took a deep breath held it and slowly pulled the triger. My 7mm mag rang out and he disspeared, I could not see him in my scope,I put another round in and kept looking for him but nothing. At that piont I had that sick feeling you know the one. Did I miss or even worse clip hin?I sat there as long as I could maybe 30 min and went to the spot, nothing I kept looking no blood, no hair. The grass was high but after a few min. I found his tracks and 10 yards up the trail in the grass was my trophy.I gave thanks gave him his last meal and looked him over.I hit him high in the spin and droped him, my scope was set to high but he went down with on pain.I would like to thank you all for the great info on this board and thank cardeer for the necklece, yes I had it on.He is a 9 point could have been a 10 but he broke a crab claw off.My best yet 176 lbs live weight don't know what he scores but thats ok with me what a great feeling.

That is a great hill country deer. Looks like a real bruiser. I bet he was the boss in his area for sure. Congrats! I had that same shaky buck fever feeling when my buck came out. I had to take a deep breath. Congrats again glad to see another local hunter score on a nice buck.

Taz that small buck was shot by a guy who never hunted deer before and it was his first, on this land we have a 8 point or better rule except for kids and new hunters.

A good frend of mine owns the land and we have been hunting it for 10 years now.We don't have feeder on it because of all the other food around tons of oaks and crops.I have taken 3 wall hangers off this land and the guy who owns the land took a 10 pointer off it 15 years ago he hates it when I come in with another nice buck. There was a nice 9 point taken last year. Its a one buck co.so its back to the hill country to bow hunt for the rest of the season.

Way to go Tracker. Nice deer, especially for our end of the woods. I really like the tall tines. Congratulations on a nice Texas deer.
